Do I need a referral?

WorkSafe's osteopathy guidelines say that once your claim has been accepted, you can see an osteopath for your work-related injury without prior approval from WorkSafe and without a referral from a doctor. You can choose your own provider. Your GP still plays an important role in your claim, including issuing your first certificate of capacity, and your osteopath can keep them informed with your consent.

What to bring

Having your claim details on hand helps us confirm your claim before your first appointment and send accounts and reports to the right place. Please bring your claim number so we can confirm billing arrangements before your appointment.

• WorkSafe claim number
• Your WorkSafe agent or case manager's name and contact details
• Employer details and your usual role or duties
• Your current certificate of capacity, if you have one
• Any relevant scans, reports or letters from other practitioners

What care may involve

Appointments start with a detailed history and a physical and movement assessment. Care is then tailored to your injury, your job and what you are currently able to do at work and at home.

• Hands-on treatment where appropriate
• Exercise rehabilitation, progressed as your capacity changes
• Advice on managing work tasks, modified duties and daily activities
• Planning for a graded return to your usual duties
• Referral back to your GP if another pathway is more appropriate

Reports and communication

WorkSafe asks osteopaths to complete a recovery management plan early in treatment, which sets out your goals and how progress will be measured. With your consent, your osteopath may also speak with your GP, your agent or your return-to-work coordinator so that everyone involved in your claim is working from the same information.

WorkCover appointments are available with Dr Elie Mokbel, osteopath, at our Coolaroo clinic and with Dr Matt Tancevski, osteopath, at our Epping clinic inside Atomic Gym. Early morning and evening appointments may suit people working shifts or full-time hours.
